For 100 years, Hanwag has been manufacturing high-quality mountaineering and trekking footwear with precision craftsmanship at our headquarters in Vierkirchen, near Munich. When Hans Wagner started making boots and shoes in 1921 with the Hanwag brand name in this small Bavarian village, he ensured that production took place on site, in his own premises. This remains true to this day. In times where many companies move their production to far-flung corners of the world, this should not to be taken for granted.
Today, we manufacture at our headquarters in Vierkirchen in Bavaria and also have our own production facilities in Hungary and an exclusive long-term manufacturing partnership in Croatia. Three different methods are applied: the boots are double-stitched or cemented, or made using innovative direct injection technology (where the sole is attached directly). As a result, Hanwag has a wide selection of footwear models, ranging from a hard-wearing leather boot that can be resoled to a lightweight, flexible fabric boot.
This conscious approach has allowed us to pass on our long-standing experience, expertise and exclusive skills. Moreover, thanks to the direct contact and close proximity of our employees, our manufacturing processes are more efficient and our transport routes are shorter. We see this as our sustainable responsibility.
