WHEN DO YOU NEED TO RESOLE YOUR BOOTS?

1. Worn tread

The most common reason for getting your boots resoled is because the tread has worn down, i.e. your soles don’t have much pattern left. This means that your boots have less grip and traction – so could be less secure in terrain. It’s high time to get the sole replaced. Resoling your boots means restoring full functionality for secure hiking and comfortable trekking.

2. Sole coming away (hydrolysis)

If the midsole material on your boots is hard, starting to crumble, or the outsole is coming away, then you should get them repaired and resoled. This problem is due to natural ageing of the materials in the midsole, also known as hydrolysis.

Please note: We recommend that you have your HANWAG hiking boots inspected either by ourselves or by a specialist retailer after six years to make sure that you can still hike safely.

WHICH HANWAG MODELS CAN BE RESOLED?

Most HANWAG models can be resoled. It depends on the construction:

  • Double-stitched models can be resoled.
  • Cemented construction footwear can also be resoled.

Unsure which type of footwear you have? Ask your HANWAG retailer or contact our service team: kontakt@hanwag.de.

WHY GET YOUR BOOTS RESOLED

1. Safety
If the tread is worn down, your boots will have less grip. Grip and traction to prevent slipping is crucial for hiking and mountaineering.

2. Trusty fit
With well worn-in boots, the uppers mould to take on the unique shape of your feet. By getting your boots resoled, you keep this trusty fit going.

3. Save money
It's cheaper to get your boots resoled than it is to buy a new pair. So, you save money and keep the quality.

4. Sustainability
Getting your boots resoled prolongs their lifespan. Instead of buying a new pair, you are saving resources and reducing waste. As such, this makes an important contribution towards sustainability.

HOW HANWAG RESOLING WORKS

Resoling requires highly skilled manual expertise. First, the old sole is cut away and all remains are removed, including the rubber rand. Then the complete sole unit is renewed. The rubber rand is redrawn, and the new outsole plus integrated damping wedge is glued and set. After a few final finishing touches, the boots are given new footbeds and new laces.

HOW MUCH DOES HANWAG RESOLING COST?

If you send your boots directly to us, we give the sole unit a complete overhaul – from the outsole to the inner shock absorbing wedge and the outer rubber rand. We also include a new pair of footbeds and laces.
