From 1921 to this day, Hanwag stands for traditional handcrafted workmanship combined with technical expertise, continuous innovation, durability and tradition. For 100 years, we have been making high-quality, functional mountaineering and trekking footwear at our headquarters in Vierkirchen near Munich. Together with experienced professional athletes – alpinists, trekkers and mountain guides – our shoe designers and developers create innovative footwear for outdoor use that is perfected down to the smallest detail.
At Hanwag, we make our footwear in three different ways. Since 1921, we’ve been producing our footwear by using the double-stitched method, the most traditional one, which only a very few shoemakers are still capable of. Over the years, the cemented method came along and now innovative direct injection technology (where the sole is attached directly).
No two feet are the same. This is why not every last and shoe shape will fit every hiker or mountaineer. To ensure a better, more individual fit, we started developing our own special lasts many years back.
